Most painters in San Diego put “licensed and insured” on a website and stop there. The number is what matters. A license number is verifiable; the phrase “licensed and insured” is not.
Anyone bidding against us in California is supposed to have a CSLB license for any job over $500. If they won’t give you the number — or they hesitate, or they say “don’t worry about it” — that’s the answer. Look up our number at cslb.ca.gov before you talk to anyone else, then ask every other painter you talk to for theirs.
Our license is in the C-33 classification — Painting and Decorating Contractor. That’s the California classification specifically for residential and commercial painting, including prep, surface preparation, finishing, and related coatings work.
The license is held by Tony’s Painting CA Inc., a California corporation.
Verify current license status directly through CSLB at cslb.ca.gov. License status, bond, and complaint history are part of the public record on the CSLB site.
General liability covers property damage during the job — if our crew knocks something over, if a ladder accidentally damages a fixture, if paint gets where it shouldn’t. The policy is held with a licensed California carrier. We send a Certificate of Insurance to any client who asks before we start.
Workers’ comp coverage applies to crew injuries during covered work. Hiring uninsured or improperly insured contractors may create potential liability exposure for property owners. Specific coverage details, certificates, and endorsements are available upon request for qualifying projects.
For HOA and property management contracts, we routinely add the property owner, HOA, or property management company as an additional insured on the COI. The carrier handles the endorsement; we forward the COI before any work starts on-site.
This applies to any California contractor, not just us. Three steps:
